MAY

2hr Yin Yoga Class

w/Nancy Liljedahl

Saturday, May 5 @ 1:00-3:00pm

Cost: $25

Most types of yoga are yang in their active, heat-building, muscle-focused approaches.  By contrast, Yin Yoga specifically avoids usage of the muscle. It is a passive cool, gentle practice. Poses are floor-based and held for 3-5 minutes. The exquisite release from these deeply held postures is often likened to the sensation of receiving a massage. The purpose of these deep, lengthy and passive postures is to stretch through the muscles, into the drier and lesser attended to areas of the body: the ligaments, tendons, bones and joints.  As such this practice brings awareness and attention to the body in a very unique manner and is an excellent complement to more yang practices of yoga. The focus of Yin Yoga is on the hips, pelvis, spine, hamstrings, and thighs. In Yin we focus on these areas of the body to increase the comfort level experienced in long held meditation practices as well as all areas of your yoga practice.

Suitable for all levels of students.

Let’s Go Up-side Down & All Around

An arm balance and inversions workshop

w/Gina Saka

Saturday, May 12 @ 1:00-3:00pm

Cost: $30 thru 4/30, $35 thereafter

In this workshop we will learn to approach arm balances safely and fearlessly. Come discover what balancing on your hands really means and how to work arm balances with more knowledge and confidence.

Practicing inverted postures is an effective and important means to counterbalance the demands and stress in our lives.  We will focus on how to build openness in the shoulders and inspire overall strength.  We will learn safe entry into the postures as well as safe ways to exit or fall out of postures. We will experiment with headstands, crow, handstands and more. This workshop is geared for all levels; beginners will learn the foundations and technicalities of leaving the ground and advanced practitioners will explore new entries, exits and variations.

Come with questions, a playful attitude, and thirst for flight.  To turn your body upside down takes lot of strength and courage. We will work on simple ways to build your confidence and stability.

Come experience the freedom these asanas inspire!
