kat mackenzie

In 2000 as an undergraduate in psychology at Colorado State University, Kat began studying yoga and mediation.  Kat has always had a passion for propagating health and wellness and so it was yoga’s balance between mind and body that drew her into a regular yoga practice.  After finishing her degree, she completed Global Yoga’s 200 hour teacher training program and founded Apex Yoga International www.apexyogainternational.com. Kat's teaching style includes detailed instructions on correct alignment and body posture, techniques on continually being mindful of the breath and how to safely move into and out of asanas. She encourages her students to set an intention for each yoga practice so they can leave the worries of the day behind and focus on their body and mind. She currently teaches Hatha, Vinyasa, Prenatal and Mommy and Baby yoga in both group and private settings.  Kat appreciates the healing benefits of yoga and currently teaches yoga to a group of HIV positive individuals.  She enjoys working with special populations such as pregnant women, athletes and people with disabilities.  Her specialties include working with persons with physical (paralysis, amputations, HIV related complications, etc.), mental and developmental disabilities. An avid runner, Kat has completed numerous runs from 5k races to half marathons and has a knack for working with athletes and runners.  Kat strives to challenge her students at their own level and encourages them to work around obstacles that may be blocking their advancement.
