history

In the fall of 2002, Chicago teacher and dedicated philanthropist, Christine De Lizer, planted the seed of Namaskar Yoga studio.   With the ever-present help and support of her two closest friends Brigid Shannon and Lourdes Paredes, the seed took root and blossomed.

With a passion for beautiful and well-made yoga clothing, Christine’s presence at 3946 N. Southport began with a boutique offering quality yoga gear.  Yoga classes were held in the back portion of the boutique.  Eventually the studio expanded to fill the entire 1000 square foot space, moving the boutique two doors north.  With time the boutique closed its doors while Namaskar Yoga studio grew in strength and success.

After more than five years in business, and upon hearing the call to change direction in her life, Chris decided to relinquish her role as businesswoman and owner of Namaskar Yoga in exchange for the ability to focus on teaching and other endeavors.  At the time of transfer of the business, Namaskar Yoga offered 24 classes a week taught by over fifteen dedicated teachers.  With deep passion for teaching, consistent commitment to her students, generous support from friends and family and an unmistakable heart of gold, Chris De Lizer established and grew a gem of a yoga studio in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.  We acknowledge and thank her for all it took to turn her dream into a magnificent reality.

In December 2008, the ownership of Namaskar Yoga studio was transferred to its current owner, Alexandra Murman.  A student of the studio, Alexandra was attracted to the personal, community feel of Namaskar Yoga and saw great potential to share the gifts of the studio with a larger segment of Chicago.  It is with great honor and joy that she chooses to focus her efforts on allowing Namaskra Yoga studio to expand to its highest potential, continuing to offer the opportunity, to all who are drawn, to discover and deepen their relationship with yoga.
